Stephanie Campbell, a mother of three, explaining why the shutdown of 12 of New York City’s worst schools should be less of a concern to communities and defenders of the status quo such as the American Federation of Teachers’ Big Apple local, than the importance of improving the quality of education for children, especially the poorest in our urban communities. New York City has shut down more than 100 schools since 2001, as it has also improved student achievement.
